In 1995, the Delaware Legislature authorized public charter schools to provide for the opportunity to learn in a more diverse curriculum environment.

Additional legislation in 1996 provided for School Choice (Title 14, Chapter 4). Parents may have the option to have their child schooled in a public school that does not serve their particular area.
