In 1995, the Delaware Legislature authorized public charter schools to provide for the opportunity to learn in a more diverse curriculum environment. Providence Creek Academy

Additional legislation in 1996 provided for School Choice (Title 14, Chapter 4). Parents may have the option to have their child schooled in a public school that does not serve their particular area. Districts, however, retain the authority to determine their own policies regarding choice. Parents are advised to consult with the affected district early.
